yikes. moving is harddddddd.
So last update left us with the following steps:
“Step 7,8,9,10…etc pack van, drive to Wales, unpack, bish bash bosh leave Lon-done”
simples right? NOT.
We finished packing up on Tues last week, Weds morning went to pick up the van. Not gonna lie was a little bit nervous about driving it, but then within about 5s found myself in my white van man era.
**Beep beep - you alright dahhling??**
Step 7. Pack Van
Immediate anxiety about whether all the bits will fit in the van but no other choice but to carry on - so drove to the storage unit to pop all the workshop bits in, and more stress as that filled up a LOT of space. EEEK. Someone told me it you lose 30% of space on poor packing, so I was still holding out hope…
TO THE FLAT!
Our flat is up three flights of stairs, so it was a lot of - Up up up down down down pack pack pack - SO tiring. Thank you SO much to our two pals who came to help, honestly couldn’t have done it without you. <3
I also recruited a taskrabbiter to help - he was quite helpful but also turned up an hour late, wearing wool trousers and carrying a Gucci backpack so not quite prepared for the task…but he did compliment me on my strong quads so I gave him a good review.
SPOILER ALERT - it did not fit. Which when that became clear was quite a load off the mind as still had a 6ish hour drive to complete…so we will be getting another van to go up with the car and the rest of the bits - mainly plants and a mattress…
This is very lucky as I think my brain just stopped at one point as I stared into the back of the van and thought - no more. no more.
Step 8. Drive to Wales
As aforementioned, I am a van driver now - and the journey was the smoothest it has ever been out of London - shout out to the M4 no longer having roadworks! Woop woop! Listening to podcast quizzes, music etc - maybe I’ll do another stack on what we like to listen to for 6 hours…watch this space.
Here’s a clip of me being a responsible van driver:
Its pretty gorgeous isn’t it!
Step 9. Load up the container
This was possibly the most satisfying part of the trip - after getting a comprehensive history of Kevin’s rise in the container storage business - he started with half a lot, bought out Elliot, realised the potential and now is 150 containers strong - we began to unload. Halfway through we got a helping hand from the 2 chaps whose container we were blocking with the van - wouldn’t get that kinda service in London now would ya!!!??
I did a timelapse and you can see our new friends (and the in laws too):
Gang gang gang.
Also STRONGLY considering getting into the container storage business, it seems very lucrative, if you want in hit me up.
Step 10. Back to London
The train journey back is a blur, and couldn’t quite believe we did all that in a day, and will be doing a mini version of this next week as a final pass.

Meanwhile going a bit stir crazy packing up the last bits and bobs and saying more goodbyes!
Bye for now! X
Yes for your white van era lol! But wow, what an epic achievement. You've got this for round two!
Looks so pretty there. I can see why you're leaving us.
Ready for storage world domination 🤗
